Careers Hub | 7 simple but effective tips to improve your LinkedIn profile
If you’re in the market for a new job, or generally looking to improve your personal brand, don’t forget to use these simple but effective tips to boost your online presence on LinkedIn.
Get a profile (seriously!)
This may sound obvious, but you’d be surprised at the number of people who apply for our roles who still don’t have LinkedIn. Step one is to get a profile. Once you’re set up, here are some pointers to ensure your profile is top notch.
Grow your presence
Aim to get 500+ connections – this shows you’re active online and have a big network. Preferably add contacts that you actually know – cold LinkedIn add requests sometimes aren’t welcomed.
Look the part
Have a professional photo – bathroom selfies aren’t helping your case – trust us on this one. We often use LinkedIn to see what our candidates look like before calling or meeting them, it helps put a face to the name. Let those pearly whites shine so we know who we’re meeting with.
Don’t just be a number
Customise your URL – having a nice and clean URL looks more professional. Plus you can add it to your CV, email signature, business cards, etc.
Flaunt it
An easy way to beef up your profile is to get some solid recommendations & endorsements from your colleagues or clients. This is an easy win to gain some credibility from your previous experience.
Boost your SEO
Your summary is a great place to add keywords to increase your SEO so that recruiters and HR managers can find your profile. The more key words, the better.
Get personal
Feel free to add your hobbies and interests. After all, we’re all humans and have passions outside the office. You never know – perhaps your future manager shares the same hobbies as you!
Hopefully those simple 7 tips will help you maximise your potential on LinkedIn. Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there; allow your profile to highlight your career achievements in a professional and well formatted manner that will inspire recruiters to add you to the top of their list. While you’re at it, follow our LinkedIn page for company updates.
Until next time…
